So, this week, we are going to be chatting about how to cash in, how to make money, how to profit from making simple tutorials, okay? Actually my friend, Amy [Harrup 00:00:23] came up with a product this week. It’s called Instructo. It’s really taking the concept of the fundamentals on how to make money with tutorials.
For me, and for what I want to share with you all, we talked about this in some of the past sessions, always have some kind of call to action, right? It’s better to have some kind of call to action when you’re helping people do something. So, if you’re doing a tutorial on anything, any kind of thing that you’re skilled at, anything that you want to teach somebody, ultimately you should be trying to build your list, and ultimately attempting to bring somebody to the next level with you whether it’s get them on your list, whether it’s join a Facebook group, whether it’s subscribe to a YouTube channel, whether it is follow you on Instagram, follow you on Pinterest, you see where I’m getting with this, right?
There always has to be something that you’re getting in exchange, because why would you do the tutorial in the first place? Unless you’re really doing it for fun as a pastime. But, most of us want to make some kind of living, some kind of income, some kind of passive income, some kind of side income, some kind of side hustle. Whatever it is that you’re doing, you want to benefit from it, right?
So, that’s why I’m here to kind of teach you the 2.0, is how to really cash in on your online tutorials. Basically the idea is, is to pick something where there is a big enough crowd that have similar things that they need help with. Let’s just make a new example. I always use my video example, how to do videos, and how to do training videos, and all the problems that come along with video marketing.
Let’s switch the topic, just because this is a topic that I am into right now, and that is, how many of you heard of ManyChat? This is basically having conversations and creating them through a system called ManyChat on Facebook Messenger so that you can interact with people first automatically, and then moving on to actually corresponding with people through Messenger using a tool called ManyChat. ManyChat is so cool, and it’s so robust, that you can literally turn into a programmer overnight. If you learn, because there’s programming, I don’t know, probably some of you on the line actually know this better than I do. Programming is a lot of if/then statements, right? If somebody does this, then this happens, or this sequence of events happen.
This was kind of why I really got into doing Alexa skills, because it was the same thing. It was the same way. I don’t know if my Alexa’s going to go off. I think I turned it off, because it was annoying me. If you say, if you have an Alexa app, or an Alexa skill, and somebody says, “You know, hey Alexa, play this song,” and then if they say, “Hey, Alexa, play the next song,” then your skill has to kind of navigate through what the person is saying. That’s the same thing with ManyChat. ManyChat, it needs a tutorial within itself.
Let’s say you take the hottest topic in today’s market, ManyChat, and you just do a bunch of tutorials on how to do different things with ManyChat. What if you want somebody to press a button, and then it’ll take them to this website, or what if you ask them a question, and if they say yes, take them here, or if they say no, take them there. If they say no, answer them this way. If they say yes, if they say maybe, there’s so many different combinations of what people can do with ManyChat. It’s something that a lot of people need help with. This is just one example.
That’s something that you have to think about. What is something that you can help with that’s hot and trending, or it’s not going to go anywhere? It doesn’t even have to be so hot, but it could be hot. Like Instagram. Hot, right? You can’t even hold it, it’s so hot. What if you taught somebody how you got followers on Instagram? What if you taught somebody how to get email addresses from Instagram? People are going to listen, so doing tutorials around things that people are going to listen to, that’s really, really important. Don’t do tutorials around things that people are not going to listen to.
At the end of the day, you might be saying, “Well, how do I make money?” There’s two different things that you’re doing here with these tutorials, and I also talk about how to do the tutorials, too. The first thing is, is that you can just do them for exposure. So, let’s say that you have a YouTube channel, and you have video, after video, after video, after video, you can almost be a Netflix platform of you, where people can just be sucked in to your world and watch video after video. What happens is, when that happens, you gain credibility, you gain followers, you gain fans, when people are seeing, “Ooh, this person is really active, they’re engaged, they’re in the community, they’re really involved, they put out new content, they know what they’re talking about,” those are the things that people really, really want to see.
If they see you especially talking about one specific topic over and over and over again, they’re going to come to you the next time they have a question, or if they want to see more training on that topic, right? This the kind of broad thinking that you want when you’re getting into kind of online instruction. There needs to be an audience for it, and there needs to be enough people that experience these problems that they want to go and get some help with.
That’s the first way. And then the second way is the monetization of it. If you do the build up and then you ultimately have something that you’re selling, or you’re trying to drive traffic to. I always had the dream of having … what’s my one thing that I’m driving people to, driving people to, driving people to? This is what I’m building my content all around. You can have multiple things, and that one thing could actually change over the years, too. Just be careful not to … try to have it in one kind of umbrella topic. Don’t be doing sewing stuff and then being doing knitting stuff, well knitting and sewing are kind of similar, right?
Sewing stuff and fishing, I mean really not too related, right? You know what I mean, you get the gist. Do it under an umbrella topic. For instance, how to make money online, how to grow a list, how to do Instagram, how to do Pinterest, how to do ManyChat, how to talk to people on Facebook, how to talk to people on YouTube, how to grow your YouTube channel, these are all under the umbrella of one big topic.
Instructo is going to give you a lot of clever ways on how you can do these tutorials, and Amy always finds these gems of … the site, yeah I’ll give you the link right now. I’ll put it in the chat box for everyone to see. It’s right there, if you go onto the chat box, you’ll see it. But, Amy always finds these nice gem sites, where you could post your content to get paid, and she has really, really great resources too. I highly recommend Instructo. People are absolutely loving it. Amy’s really good at outlining things like that.
Another thing that you can consider, if you don’t want to do videos, that’s fine. Videos aren’t for everyone, and you can do tidbits of content, too. If you follow me on Instagram, what I’m starting to do is these carousel images based on a topic. I’ll pick a topic, let’s say like “How to do tutorials” and then I’ll be like, “Step one, step two, step three, step four.” I’ll have five slides of my different tips for that day, and there’s nobody involved in that at all, it’s just all just content, written content and graphics.
That’s a great way to actually get traffic now. If you picked up my Instagram course that I did a couple weeks ago with my templates, then I show you exactly how to do that as well. Also, different sites … think about things that you can do, tutorials that you can do, that you can sell multiple copies at perhaps a lower ticketed price. For example, on Etsy, you can do templates, things like that. That’s not necessarily how-to, but essentially it is having some people use your content, and the masses can use it. That’s what we’re after. We’re after growing an audience, growing people who can consume our information, whether it’s in the written form, whether it’s buying a template, a replicate of what we are, what we’re doing, what we do to succeed, and then how we can translate to your success. That’s what templates are, right?
Or, what I like to do is video. Having some people learn by watching and listening, and me showing you how to do it, and what to do. There’s a number of ways that you can go about putting these different pieces of content together. You just have to pick which one you like the best and run with it. If you like more writing and visual, then maybe the whole visual landscape is better for you, like Instagram and Pinterest. Those places are … there’s a ton, a ton of ways that you can generate traffic there.
If video is more for you, then start doing three to four minute videos to get traffic, and do a lot of them to get that traction. The videos do not have to be long at all. I know that there was a site that Amy referenced in her course, Instructo course, that I’m recommending, where the site actually pays for your tutorials, like $100 to $250 for specific tutorials. So imagine if you get paid, you don’t do it for free, you get paid to do tutorials, that’s pretty amazing. You could find a gig like that, where you can use your expertise and get paid for it … now again, yes it is time for money, but hey, we’ve all been there. We’ve all done it. We all do it. There’s things that you should do if you are trying to make money online, if you want to trade your time for money, that’s one of the things that you can do to make money.
Then, you can do many things to make money, and that’s one of the things you can do. So that site … that actually stuck out at me when I was reading through her manuscript there. That was pretty cool. So, go ahead and check that out. It’s at debdrum.com/instructo. Instructo, okay? That’s her course that I am recommending. Really, online tutorials, if you know how to do them, it’s really the fundamental way to make money online, which is great. If you know those fundamentals, then you can just keep building and building and building on top of that.
I’ll kind of leave you with this, just to wrap your head around the changing environment of the online atmosphere. Where am I? I’m over here. The changing environment of the online atmosphere today is things are going to more of engaging with people, and more one on one. So, you don’t have to have these lofty goals of getting in front of millions of people. If you can just touch a couple of people a day, and grow and grow and grow from there, learn how to do these tutorials, and that can be your base, then start from there.
Then you can really, really grow. Definitely watch the space, and one thing I also want to leave you with as well, is one of the things that I’m sharing with my community is I talk to you about this having this one thing that you push people to, and for a limited amount of people, I am sharing something really, really cool, really special. I won’t tell you too much, because it’s really more of like a one to one conversation, but it is an ultimate system where you don’t need to build your own product, you don’t need to build your own lead magnets, and you don’t need to do any copywriting, because that’s already done for you. It’s kind of like a system that works for you when you send people through it. It’s really, really cool. It’s worked really well for me now, and I’m slowly rolling that out, so if you’d like to have a conversation, I’ll also put it in the chat for this video as well when we post it. Or if you want to reach out to me, email@example.com.
I’m being a little bit vague now, I know, but just because this is not the purpose of this conversation. Instructo, online tutorials is where it all begins. Sending people to a destination, and that destination can be something that’s very high quality, that makes you money. So, if you’re interested in hearing more about that, just hit me up, and I’ll be happy to have a conversation with you.
I want to see you again!
This has been such a pleasure, and I know you will watch yourself grow by putting these action steps to work. Thank you so much for joining!
